The GSGE will proceed to the following actions:

  • Devising a Plan of governmental activities for the prevention and decrease - elimination of violence / ill-treatment of women as well as indicators for its evaluation on the basis of the 7 European indicators posed by the Danish Presidency in 2002.
  • Drafting and promotion of legislation on preventing and combating domestic violence, in cooperation to co-competent Ministries.
  • Organizing a awareness-raising campaign targeting public opinion and competent agencies, regarding domestic violence against women.
  • Reinforcing the Reception Centres for Women Victims of Violence, operating in Athens and Piraeus, as well as the consultation centres of the Research Centre for Gender Equality (ΚΕTHI) in large Greek cities, such as Thessaloniki, Patra, Herakleion, Volos, expanding their role, and stuffing them with personnel specializing in relevant matters, at the same time training their existing staff on dealing with victims of trafficking. Furthermore, development of the possibility to provide consultation support to men-perpetrators, too, following a relevant study.
  • Upgrading the Shelter for Women Victims of Violence and their Children, which operates in cooperation with the Athens Municipality, and promoting the establishment of a second such shelter in Thessaloniki. Consideration of the possibility to establish a department for short-term (48 hours) and immediate (omitting medical examinations) accommodation of women in conditions of emergency.
  • Ensuring socio-psychological support and employment for women officially characterized as victims of illegal trafficking, who have received a residence permit, valid as a work permit, as well (following a recent legislative regulation of the Ministry of the Interior, Public Administration and Decentralisation). The GSGE has already ensured, in cooperation with the Greek Manpower Employment Organization (OAED), the inclusion of such women in programmes applied by the Organisation and financed through Equality funds (Measure 5.3. of the Operational Programme "Employment and Vocational Training" - Project: Integrated Interventions in favour of Women).
