The General Secretariat for Gender Equality (GSGE), i.e. the governmental organization in charge of equality between women and men in Greece, has widely promoted among competent stakeholders the EC initiative for the establishment of the “Women and Transport – A Platform for Change” based on the supportive documentation by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC).

More specifically:

A detailed article written in Greek by the competent GSGE Director for Development & Support of Policies on Gender Equality was uploaded on the website of our organization: http://old.isotita.gr/index.php/news/3173 .

Although it is in our national language, you will immediately recognize the links to the two EESC Opinions on Women and Transport:

a) http://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EL/TXT/PDF/?uri=CELEX:52015AE1773&from=EL on July 2015

b) http://www.eesc.europa.eu/?i=portal.en.ten-opinions.41100 on April 2017.

In addition, a relevant document was sent by our organization by e-mail to an extensive list of recipients on 15-6-2017: the Hellenic Parliament, Independent Authorities (e.g. the Greek Ombudsman and the National Commission for Human Rights), Ministries (the Ministry of Transport included), the Diplomatic Missions of Greece to International Organizations (the Permanent Representation of Greece to the EU included), the European Institutions represented in Greece (European Commission, European Parliament, European Network of Legal Experts on Gender Equality), the European Institute for Gender Equality based in Vilnius, Lithuania, as well as all the key social partners of Greece.

In that way, greater visibility of the importance of gender mainstreaming in transport has been achieved in Greece by our initiative.
